Smart chat experiences aren’t just for big tech anymore. With the rapid rise of AI and vector databases, advanced search and conversational interfaces are now within reach for everyday WordPress sites. But here's the catch—while the tools are powerful, many developers and site owners struggle to see how to actually use them. That’s exactly why I built the Smart Search Chatbot demo. As part of an internal effort to showcase the capabilities of WP Engine’s Smart Search AI and the Managed Vector Database, I needed a practical, working example that our customers could understand, deploy, and learn from. This post breaks down the GitHub repo I created, the problem it solves, and how you can adapt it for your own WordPress projects—even better now that AgentKit by OpenAI has joined the WP Engine toolbox.
